Welcome to our Little Musketeers class, where young adventurers embark on a journey into the world of the Olympic Sport of Fencing!

In this playful and imaginative class designed specifically for “little musketeers,” children will step into the shoes of brave musketeers and learn the basics of fencing in a fun and dynamic environment.

Led by our experienced instructors, children will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of fencing through interactive games and activities. They'll learn how to hold a foil, the basic footwork techniques, and the importance of coordination and balance.

Equipped with child-friendly plastic fencing equipment suitable for their age, the children will also learn about the importance of respecting their fellow musketeers and following the rules of the fencing arena.

Imagination will be encouraged throughout the class as children engage in pretend duels, swashbuckling adventures, and playful challenges inspired by legendary musketeers. This form of 'play learning' develops their creativity, confidence, and teamwork skills while also honing their fencing techniques.

Parents can expect their little musketeers to come home with tales of daring sword fights and newfound friendships. We aim to ignite a love for fencing and inspire a sense of adventure that will stay with them long after the class ends.

So, join us on this exciting quest as we unleash the spirit of the musketeers in our Little Musketeers fencing class!

Sign-up for this class is available through the Forest Hills Enrichment program, East Grand Rapids Parks & Recreation program, Rockford Parks and Recreation, Grandville and Wyoming area, or you may contact GRAFA directly.

All equipment provided by GRAFA.

Playing Safely with… Swords?

If you’ve read our Maestros’ origin story, you already get that the draw for kids to play with swords is pretty timeless. And FUN.

Fencing is a wonderfully safe outlet for this childhood urge to mimic combat, while also developing outstanding coordination, strategic thinking, and adaptive resilience.

GRAFA’s fencing community is also a wonderfully warm and extremely professional environment to explore this classic, Olympic sport. (Bonus: If they stick with it, fencing can also help with college admissions.)

Have more questions? Check out our Safety Section, where we detail all the ins & outs of fencing safety and sport.
